EU Tries To Enforce New Tech Rules On Bing And iMessage

EU antitrust regulators are soliciting feedback from Microsoft users and rivals to determine whether Bing and Apple's iMessage should face heightened tech regulations. This move follows the European Commission's investigations, which was initiated in September, to assess if Microsoft's Bing, Edge, Microsoft Advertising, and Apple's iMessage, should be covered by the Digital Markets Act (DMA). The DMA requires major companies like Microsoft, Apple, Google, Amazon, Meta Platforms, and ByteDance to allow third-party apps on their platforms and support user transitions to be easier from default apps to rivals’ apps.

Earlier this month, the Commission dispatched surveys to the rivals and users of these major companies, seeking ratings on the significance of iMessage and Bing services in comparison to their competitors. Respondents were asked to finish the survey in less than a week. The Commission hopes to complete the investigation within five months.
