Microsoft Unveils New AI-Focused Chip MAIA

Microsoft announced that they have developed a new chip called MAIA which is designed to support and enhance AI-based systems and machine learning. The new chip, which is not planned to be sold publicly, will be integrated into Microsoft’s own computer systems and data centers, supporting Azure. The chips will also be used to power the supercomputers responsible for ChatGPT and other services managed by OpenAI, their collaborative AI partner.

Microsoft is currently testing their new AI programs on AMD hardware, but made the decision to switch to their own in-house chips to reduce costs and match Microsoft technology more intuitively. The company has decided to support their coud services with the new chips first because it is cheaper than selling AI technology directly out of consumer products like smartphones and tablets.
