Verge, Vox, Release New Report on AI Consumer Attitudes

A new report titled "Hope, Fear and AI," a collaborative report published Monday by The Verge and Vox Media unveiled findings on consumer attitudes towards artificial intelligence (AI). The survey sought to gain insights into the rapid rise and adoption of generative AI tools and understand how adult Americans utilize and perceive AI.

Vox Media surveyed over 2,000 individuals in April 2023 to gather comprehensive data. The study aimed to determine the number of Americans who have already used AI tools, identify the AI tools driving the fastest adoption, explore how Americans believe AI will disrupt their workplaces, gauge the societal changes they desire in response to AI, and delve into various other aspects of AI usage and perception.

The report reveals that one in three American adults has already utilized generative AI tools. Conversations around AI are becoming increasingly prevalent, with 44% of the surveyed Americans stating that AI is mentioned "several times a week" in their discussions. Generation Z individuals frequently engage in conversations about AI, with 61% reporting its frequent occurrence.

Additionally, 78% of consumers surveyed expressed a desire for clear disclosure of AI usage in digital content. Nearly half of the respondents (47%) believe that AI will significantly or moderately disrupt their respective sectors, and a majority (69%) agreed that significant societal changes would be necessary to adapt to a world influenced by AI.
