‘Crypto Queen’ Allegedly Murdered in Greece: Report

ATHENS, GR – Sources in Europe telegraphed late Monday that Ruja Ignatova, the infamous founder of OneCoin, was allegedly murdered in November 2018. The Bulgarian Interior Ministry has not made any official comments as of press time.

According to the Greek City Times and the Bureau for Investigative and Reporting Data (BIRD), Ignatova, 42, was murdered on the orders of Christophros Amanatidis-Taki, a fugitive druglord, in November 2018 while vacationing on a yacht in Greece. According to BIRD, after Ignatova was shot, her body was dismembered and thrown into the Ionian Sea.

While Ignatova’s murder has not officially been confirmed, BIRD has cited documents collected from two case reports, #8467/2022 and #0068/25.03.2022, recovered from the home of Lyubomir Ivanov, the former Criminal Police chief, in Sofia, Bulgaria, after Ivanov was murdered on March 25, 2022. There is no known connection between the murders of Ivanonv and Ignatova.

The documents refer to Ignatova’s death through unnamed sources, but there are no corroborating sources. The documents were never registered with the Ministry of Internal Affairs; if they had been registered, they likely would have come to the surface much sooner.

Ignatova was the only woman on the FBI’s top ten list after she conned investors out of $3.9 billion (£3.3 billion) through the infamous OneCoin scam in 2014. In the months following, Ignatova fled her native Bulgaria and flew to Athens, where she was last seen in October 2017 before evading authorities.

As previously reported by BCCN3, in January 2023, Ignatova’s name resurfaced in documents for a property sale in Britain. Investigators believed she was attempting to withdraw money from the sale into her shell company on the Channel Island of Guernsey.

BCCN3 will continue covering this report it develops.
