France Extends Crypto Compliance Timeline
PARIS, FR – French crypto businesses received a grace period for compliance with the nation’s regulation after the country’s National Assembly voted to extend its licensing deadlines Wednesday.
On Wednesday, French lawmakers passed an amendment allowing crypto businesses to operate without full licensing until the European Union’s crypto regulations are fully authorized. The EU’s Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) standards will not be enforced until 2026.
France’s grace period only extends to current market entrants; crypto ventures opening in 2024 or later will be required to have full licensing granted from the nation’s regulator, the Autorité des Marchés Financiers (AMF).
A prior amendment had required crypto businesses to be fully licensed by the end of 2023, but was rejected by a National Assembly vote.
