Google Cloud Becomes Tezos Validator

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA – Tezos Network will be adding Google Cloud as its latest validator, the company announced on Twitter Wednesday. As a Tezos “baker” – the network’s term for validators – Google Cloud will produce blocks for the Tezos’ proof-of-stake blockchain.

Google Cloud will develop apps on Tezos and incentivize developers to build on Tezos by granting cloud credits. Tezo’s Chief Commercial Officer, Mason Edwards, told Decrypt that taking in Google as a new validator is “part of a strategy that’s worked for us [...] where we’ve brought institutions in by essentially helping them set up these block-producing validators…”

Having Google as a validator also means the corporate juggernaut can participate in the blockchain’s governorship. When asked about the influence the tech titan could have over Tezos, Edwards said, “I definitely don’t see them getting involved in the politics or voting at this stage.”

In 2022 Google began running nodes on Solana and Aptos and also solidified partnerships with Coinbase and BNB to integrate payment services on its platform using BTC and ETH.
