NEW YORK CITY, NY – FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried was charged with bribery charge Wednesday, according to a superseding indictment. U.S. prosecutors say SBF attempted to bribe at least one Chinese government official in November 2021. 

The court document states, “the defendant and others directed and caused the transfer of at least approximately $40 million in cryptocurrency intended for the benefit of one or more Chinese officials in order to influence and induce them to unfreeze the Accounts.”

In December 2022, SBF was charged with 8 counts of conspiracy and fraud. In February, he was charged with four more counts of conspiracy, bank fraud, and money laundering. The latest indictment makes 13 charges against SBF. So far, he has only been arraigned on five charges. A pre-trial conference regarding the indictment is set for March 30.
