US Justice Department Arrest Bitzlato Founder

The U.S. Department of Justice announced that they have arrested Anatoly Legkodymov, the founder of Bitzlato, in a new step towards international cryptocurrency enforcement for money laundering charges and catering towards Russian criminals trying to circumvent sanctions placed on the country in 2022.

Legkodymov was arrested in Miami, Florida on Tuesday night and is set to be arraigned Wednesday afternoon in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida. He is accused of avoiding U.S. regulatory safeguards and anti-money laundering requirements with illicit funds.

U.S. officials are using the arrest as an example for all cybercriminals, telling them that the blockchain is not a suitable place to hide their illicit activities and that they will be caught and prosecuted due to its public transparency and immutable transaction history.
