Bored and Dangerous: Expanding the Lore of NFTs

The man sits at a typewriter. The bear and the girl peek through a window.

The Bored and Dangerous novel is a new token collection which was recently released on the Ethereum network. The project is entirely unique compared to the plethora of other NFTs as it is a novel, not a PFP or membership pass.

What is Bored and Dangerous About

The book is a collection of ideas that have been developed and voted on by the community within the Writer’s Room of Jenkins the Valet membership token

The collection of writers all collaborated together to outline a narrative which consisted of characters from the Bored Ape Yacht Club. Once the narrative was finalized, Neil Strauss was selected to write the entirety of the book.

NFT Books with utilities

Along with a comprehensive, high-quality story, the Bored and Dangerous token also comes with a few additional utilities that holders can use to take advantage of.

The book offers the ability to be burned or staked for rewards in their Azurbala metaverse which is a gamefi creation that has been developed in conjunction with the novel.

Burning the book offers unique items within the game while staking the book provides access to a DAO created by Jenkins the Valet.

NFT Licensing

One unique feature of the project is that Bored Ape characters featured in the story will receive licensing payments for their involvement in the narrative. This incentive, to provide additional uses for other projects, is incredibly innovative.

While the Bored Ape Yacht Club is the primary pool of characters from the Writer’s Room, the door is wide open to use characters from other collections such as Moonbirds and Azuki.

Exploring lore in NFTs

Many projects use lore to create intrigue in their collections. The latest example of this would be the Asylum Halls Genesis collection which is telling a story about a character named Sylvester.

With the ability to expand the lore with a web3 novel, many projects should consider just how much creativity they can explore with their tokens.

Projects like  Boki, Lonely Pop, Goblintown.wtf, Doodles, and many more all have some degree of lore established for their art which can be used similarly to the Bored and Dangerous collections. By creating full-fledged novels, the range of story-telling tied to each token becomes immense.

Creating a Metaverse with NFT Publishing

Further, using these stories as building blocks for a metaverse project provides even more benefits for communities so that readers will be able to explore the worlds that they’ve just experienced.

Taking successful/interesting books and adapting them for television, video games, and the cinema is a common way for entertainment companies to generate new media

With the metaverse, the ability to incorporate a virtual environment that is professionally made is the next logical step in visiting these universes.

Other Possibilities for NFT Publishing

While novels are one of the best ways to tell a story, it doesn’t mean that every project looking to follow a similar route needs to hire the best-selling author from Rolling Stone magazine to be successful.

Project teams can make any sort of literature-based NFT whether it’s a fully written novel, a comic book, or even a graphic novel. Finding the right medium to tell an appropriate story that develops the lore of a project is the primary purpose and something that most teams are capable of doing.
