Sending Notifications on Polygon with Push Protocol

As more and more Dapps are developed on the various blockchain networks, a new issue is beginning to arise in the way that information is sent to users from the protocols and applications that they sign into with their wallets.

Currently, push notifications are not common on most decentralized applications due to the nature of blockchain and the infrastructure around it, which is still growing. Fortunately, this is beginning to change with programs from Push Protocol and their recent integration with the Polygon network.

What is Push Protocol

Push protocol, formerly known as Ethereum Push Notification Service, is establishing a valuable partnership with Polygon to help Dapps deliver push notifications to users.

These notifications are helpful because they help keep users updated with key information regarding their wallets and the different applications that they are signed into.

Integration with Polygon

The new partnership with Polygon means that developers on the Polygon network will be able to upgrade their protocols in a way that allows their users to be notified conveniently.

This is especially important because Polygon is a growing network which is seeing significant adoption among different businesses and companies because it is a Layer 2 network on the Ethereum blockchain which offers users low-gas fees along with stable and fast transaction speeds.

Features on Polygon:

There are 2 primary features that users and developers can expect on the Polygon network; and because the partnership with Polygon is official, integration with the Dapp is immediate and already available.

  1. Launch channels
The channels feature enables users to create a channel for their Dapps & services in order to keep users up to date. Push Protocol features an extensive list of services already registered with Push Notification such as ENS and Coindesk. Once created, users can then subscribe to these channels by “opting-in.”

  2. Enable notifications
Once a channel is established, developers are then able to begin pushing out notifications for their audience to see. The notifications will be sent to all users that have opted-in to the channel.

Benefits to web2 companies

There are a variety of different businesses on Polygon that Push Protocol will assist due to how simple it is for users to receive information about the Dapps they are subscribed to.

It also creates a familiar display of information for users who receive information from web2 companies in a similar way.

  1. Starbucks
With their recent Odyssey collection just announced, Starbucks has a lot of incentives to use the Push Protocol because many of their users will be expecting a high-quality experience from the coffee giant’s NFTs.
The Odyssey collection has been in development since it was first announced in Spring 2022, and now that the company has officially revealed more details about it, there’s a lot of attention on how the popular web2 company will traverse web3; and Push Protocol can help establish that strong user experience.

  2. Reddit
Reddit has done a lot with its explorations of blockchain technology, such as Moons and Reddit avatars. The social media titan already has an extensive notification system, and bridging that to web3 with Push Protocol will allow everyone on the network to explore a new level of information delivery through the use of their Reddit avatars and the Reddit vault which acts as a wallet.

  3. Meta
Despite growing criticism against the Metaverse, Meta is still pushing for the development of its digital world where people can interact with each other through virtual reality.
NFTs on Instagram were just implemented which offers Meta a new avenue of informing their massive userbase about the potential of NFTs. It also separates notifications from users who may have little or no interest in NFTs by only sending these notifications to those who have set up wallets and linked them to Meta’s applications.

Multichain push notifications

The push for notifications via the blockchain doesn't stop there either. The team behind Push Protocol is determined to build out their applications even further so that more blockchain networks can join them.

With the inclusion of Polygon, Push Protocol has now become multi-chain and, with so many other popular networks fostering growing communities, the potential for Push Protocol to reach everyone on web3 with an interoperable notification system is immense.
