  • Predictive Analysis: Neural networks can help to identify early health risks in patients by analyzing data and finding patterns that are too small for humans to notice from lab samples and test results.

This application of AI can help local hospitals track patient inflow numbers, using it to set up proper staffing as needed. As a result, facilities can reduce weight times for patients while also scheduling more in a given time. 

Logistics and supply chains can also be improved with AI technology, helping clinics organize the tools and medications they need most based on their patient population. After the COVID-19 pandemic, it was clear that many hospitals were not prepared for the worst, needing additional supplies like ventilators and masks to protect communities. 

Not only does AI have the ability to list, organize, and order medical supplies on an as-needed basis, but it can also use other predictive models to forecast seasonal diseases like the flu or cold, providing a more comprehensive list of supplies for facilities. 

Challenges and Future Prospects of AI in Healthcare

While the healthcare industry is ripe for innovation regarding the use of AI technology, there are still many challenges that exist before more major advancements can continue. One aspect of this is data privacy, which carries a few critical risks. 

ML and DL models both require large amounts of data to expand their algorithms and become useful. This becomes a problem in the medical field where patient information and data privacy need to be held to high standards and in compliance with governing bodies including HIPAA and GDPR. 

Data leaks and security threats hold immense risk to patients who do not want their private information (including social security numbers and insurance information). There is always a chance that information can be stolen from a machine or leaked by accident, posing real problems that need to be solved soon. 

However, within the larger picture, the potential impact of AI on the health industry is massive. The introduction of this new and powerful technology has the ability to transform lives and expand life expectancy with the introduction of personalized medicine and advanced diagnostic procedures.
