FBI Names Horizon Bridge Hackers

PYONGYANG – The FBI has identified the North Korean cybercrime syndicate, Lazarus Group, also known as APT38, as the perpetrators of the $100 million Horizon Bridge attack in June 2022. 

The FBI stated, “through our investigation, we were able to confirm that the Lazarus Group [...] associated with the [Democratic People’s Republic of Korea] are responsible for the theft of $100 million of virtual currency from Harmony’s Horizon bridge reported on June 24, 2022.”

In a joint effort with the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), FBI officials also named a North Korean spearfishing campaign “TraderTraitor” as co-conspirators in the attack. U.S. officials have recently arrested a number of cyber criminals such as Bitzlato founder, Anatoly Legkodymov.

Horizon Bridge allows users to trade digital assets between the Harmony blockchain and various other blockchains.
